For inscrutable reasons, Eru Ilvatar decreed that 2 peoples would dwell on MiddleEarth. One immortal, the other mortal and inferior in senses, mental powers, etc. Also while the Elves were invited at once to Valinor, the humans were left to their own devices.... Their afterlives would, however, favor the mortal humans.There is yet to be revealed in the Music.
In the First Age, 3 human-elf marriages took place, and the children were given a choice -to be Elven or to be human.
Thus of Earendil's kids, Elros chose to be mortal -and was the ancestor of Aragorn, 1st king of the United Realm, and Elrond chose to be Eldar, and after 6000+ years, still was the host at Rivendell.
Would it that Tolkein had lived to see this fan art.
